Unquenchable Thirst
Published in Hardcover by MRI Press (01 December, 2000)
Author: Steve Sullivan
Average review score:

Exhilarating fast-action team leadership. Buckle up!
Sullivan's Unquenchable Thirst has championed the tools of business leadership and executive vision into a fast-paced, action-packed adventure story. Sullivan has captured it all. Move over James Bond - Steven Shaw is the superhero of the 21st century. Osoli wine will soon be the choice for all wine afficianados...forget the martini. I'm already thirsty.

Unquenchable Thirst
This is a great book! Steve Sullivan takes us along for a ride that spans the globe, following the exploits of his hero Steve Shaw - a true Renaissance Man. This is a beautiful love story wrapped up in a thrilling, page-turning account of heroes and villains. Sullivan's writing style is sharp and intelligent, and he delivers strong messages while keeping us entertained. Shaw could very well displace James Bond! I recommend it very highly.

Buckle Your Seat Belt! Get This Book and Wait for the Movie!
I had a friend give this book to me. At first I thought it would be just another pot boiler. But after reading it, I have to tell you, this is the best read of the millennium. I came away with the feeling that early readers of Tom Clancy felt when they read his first book. I love thrillers, Tom Clancy, Scott Thurlow, James Bond and big global adventure epics like "Noble House." This book blows them away-it combines the best of all these genres and goes way beyond them. The drama involves the captain-of-industry mega hero Steven Shaw and sweeps across continents (on private jets) to take you into the world of the Russian mafia, corporate halls of power and politics. It is different from a lot of books in the genre in that it features very strong and very smart women as well. Unlike Clancy, who isan insurance salesman with a very active imagination, the writer, Steve Sullivan, according to the book jacket apparently was an Army Ranger and international businessman so a lot of the international intrigue and realistic action comes from his own life and what's got to be a very, very, active imagination. But it's much more multi-dimensional than any other book remotely like it. The details of what Shaw eats on his way to catch a train across Spain, mentions of real places and details make it flow like you've been there with Shaw. This book is a non-stop race to the finish-it's a quick and exciting read. If you take it to the beach you will need a seatbelt attached to your beach chair. And take a crash helmet and high speed goggles. The book opens in San Francisco in wine country at a mega-swanky fantasy home with helicopter landing pads, Nobel Prize winners and zooms you all over the world. The writing style is lean and to the point. It moves quickly. At times Shaw gives a few sermonetttes ala John Wayne but that is all part of the character. That is the essence of the book too, it is all about core values and how they propel the hero through everything, like a good John Wayne movie. It's a fantasy world that's fun too because Shaw is the richest guy on the planet so we get to travel in his world with him, even if we didn't cash out as Internet billionaires in the good old days of the New Economy. If you are looking for fun, escape, adventure (and who ain't these days) with a moral backbone, get this book now. I will be waiting to see who plays Steven Shaw in the movie because there will be a movie of this. It's too incredible to remain in just book form. Think Tom Cruise.

Twice Dead
Published in Paperback by Hilliard & Harris Publishers (April, 2002)
Author: Eleanor Sullivan
Average review score:

Twice Dead
Face-paced, realistic, yet peppered with wry humor - a mystery I couldn't put down. You don't have to be a nurse to
appreciate the hospital background, but if the killer doesn't scare you, the "managed care" system will. Sullivan knows her
stuff!

A Mystery To Die For
In Twice Dead, we get to share the twists and turns of discovering a killer with Monika Everhardt and her best friend and police officer, BJ. These characters are likable, and they ring true all the way through the story. Even the minor characters have substance. As a lay person, I liked seeing the inner workings of a big city hospital in this era of "managed care". Of course, I loved putting together the pieces of the murder puzzle, one reason those of us who read mysteries love them. The hospital setting, along with the neighborhoods of South St. Louis, add to the richness of the story. Several of my mystery-reading friends and family are getting Twice Dead for Christmas. I look forward to Eleanor's Sullivan's next book in this series.

A Page Turner
From start to finish, this book kept me turning one page right after another. As a fan of Anne Perry's Hester Latterly, I am delighted to have a modern nurse following Hester's impressive footsteps.
One of the most important aspects of this book is the accuracy with which Sullivan portrays the pressures and challenges of modern nursing. In addition, the characters are interesting, the plot compelling and the suspense was compelling. I'm looking forward to the second novel. PS. Many of my friends will get a copy of Twice Dead in their Christmas stocking!

The Seventh Princess

For so many of us, it has been so long...
I remember picking this book up off the shelf when I was in fourth grade... that was a long time ago. Back then, I chose to read books by what their covers looked like. I know, don't judge a book by its cover, but when you read so much all the time, you start to be able to tell which are going to be the really good ones by what is on them. So, I picked this book up for some free reading, and it has taken me all these years to find it again. Unfortuantely, as some have pointed out, it is out of print. I really think that this is one of the best books that I had read when I was in elementary school. The entirety of it made a young girl's dream on the way to school come true. It is really powerful and timeless, a true work of art for minds of all ages. I just wish that I could find a copy of it...

One of my treasures!
I've had this book since grade 3 or 4 (don't remember)and I love it!! I can't believe it's been almost 15 years since I read it. I'm proud to say that it's in mint condition. ...It's a great book, lots of magic spells, wizardry and castles. I'm so happy that it's going to be printed again. It's a must for every young girl, I highly recommend it.

read it dozens of times
Jenny's a normal girl having a normal day on a normal school bus. Then she closes her eyes and wakes up in a...carriage. In a strange land. Where she is adopted by the king and named a princess.

But she isn't just any princess. She's the seventh princess of a line of five other adopted princesses who were turned into harpies by an evil witch. If she doesn't want the same thing to happen to her, she's gotta do something about it.

This was my favorite book in the fourth grade. A definite keeper, which I still remember almost a decade later. A girl can really relate to Jenny's predicament, can really believe that maybe she herself could be in Jenny's place. As for the adventure...unbelievable. The only strange part was the simpleness of the counterspell--it was a little weak for me. Still, it's all part of the fantasy.

Magic, switch from the normal world into the magical world, hapries, spells, witches, royalty, and good old fashioned school buses.

A great, great book.

Expecting Miracles

Authors: Christo, Dr Zouves and Julie Sullivan
Average review score:

A must-read for couples undergoing infertility treatment
Each chapter in this books tells the story of one couple and their struggle with infertility, and all are eventually successful. Dr. Zouves is clearly an exceptional doctor whose varied and sometimes poignant personal history is woven skillfully through the chapters. He clearly goes the extra mile for his patients, many of whom have been unsuccessfully battling infertility for many years before they meet him. I couldn't put the book down.

Excellent!! Must read book..
I am a new patient of Dr. Zouves and this book helped set my expectations for the IVF journey ahead. Dr. Zouves is an excellent storyteller. In addition to sharing the touching stories of his patients, he also clearly explains complex infertility issues, medications and the IVF procedure. This book gave us hope as we embark on IVF. I encourage anyone suffering from infertility to read it as well..

The best infertility book we¿ve ever read!
Expecting Miracles captures the physical, emotional and financial struggle of couples undergoing infertility. The book is outstanding! We couldn't put it down. We are a 'success' couple of Dr. Zouves-having struggled with infertility for over 7 ½ years. We have read numerous books on infertility-this is by far the best. The book captures Dr. Zouves' success in helping patients achieve a family. It also shows his compassion as a doctor and a human being. He is always honest with his patients and truly cares. The book explains various infertility diagnoses and treatments in easy to understand terms. It provides hope for couples that have given up on achieving a family. Dr. Zouves is a true miracle worker. Expecting Miracles is a must for anyone who has struggled with infertility, worked with infertility patients, knows of anyone undergoing infertility treatment or is struggling with infertility and has given up hope. We have recommended this book to both health care workers and friends.

The Power of Birthdays, Stars and Numbers
Published in Paperback by ()
Authors: Saffi Crawford and Geraldine Sullivan
Average review score:

will fit you to a tee!
The descripiton of my zodiac sign in this book fits me perfectly. I also amazed some of my friends and family with it. A great resource if you want to "really" get to know someone before you "really" know them! The book is very thorough. It gives an extensive theoretical explanation instead of a quick "what's my day going to be."

Awesome and Suprising!
Every single person I have looked up in this book has been to a T to their personality, the positives, negatives and everything, Give or take a trait or two, so far this has been well worth the money! I LOVE this book, it's amazing. Anyone you want to know, just get their Birth Date and look them up, it's very VERY accurate that it's almsot scary! It hit me to a T. I'm still trying to understand abit of it, but I'm older now and I've had this for years, it's been very handy and fun!

I HIGHLY recommend this book, two pages for each day of the year it's amazing!

Better than all the rest of them out there ...
I think this book is probably a lesser known version of the big hardcover one called "The Secret Language of Birthdays: Personology Profiles for Each Day of the Year".
When I first discovered these book that was the one I read at the book store, but one day I went back and read this one that was right next to it for my birthday and compared the content, and this book was by far superior.
It is an exceptional book that I have gotten rather hooked on, now anyone that I just meet and get to know their birthdays I go and read up about them.
It used to be I didn't really believe in astrology but this one on your birth date I have found to be very accurate.

This book divides your astrology into several different sections i.e. your love, your career, numbers, advice and more. It is so indepth and in plain language and not astrology jargon, that you will find it hard not to look up everyone that you know and their birthdays.
By the way, the price is a lot higher than this if you plan on purchasing at a book store. Amazon, once again, has the best deal on this book and they ship it to you for free.

Mind Your Own Business: People, Performance, Profits
Published in Paperback by Indian Creek Press (January, 2002)
Author: Jim Sullivan
Average review score:

Motivational
I enjoyed this book because the ideas to improve performance and profitability in whatever lines of business are put forth in a very easy to read and understandable format. The author not only presents exciting ideas in the areas of marketing, sales and service, he also describes how those ideas can be implemented---and what results are expected.

The collection of quotes adds to the light and humorous tones of the overall presentation.

Recommended reading for anyone interested in increasing profitability through improved service and communications. In the words of the author, Jim Sullivan, "Read it and reap".

Prepare your Service Business for the 2000's
MYOB: The heart and Soul of Hospitality is Jim Sullivan's new book, addressing the keys to Restaurant Customer Service-- from an experienced pro. Jim's humorous approach to a subject dear to any restaurateur or service person's heart is an easy read.

Heavy on specific examples and tips of ways you can change your service to improve service, sales, and profitability, MYOB is a primer for doing a service business right in the competitive 2000's. As numbers of eateries increase in the US and abroad, the key differentiation will be service received and Customers' value perception.

Sullivan combines a variety of methods that will energize salespeople in your operation.

I've recommended this book to people in other Service businesses, too, since it is so insightful into the service delivery. My friends in grocery, hotel management, retail sales, etc. have all purchased the book and gleaned successful selling/service tips from it.

If you're in a service business, this could be a MUST READ this year!

IF YOU READ ONE BOOK ON RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT,READ THIS ONE
Jim Sullivan's excitement and fun comes through in his new book just like in his seminars! Jim believes in the Customers and Employees having fun! He makes it fun for Management and employees to have a great time while taking care of the top line/sales and cutting costs. There are at least three or four ideas that will work for every restaurant to increase sales. And his saying "the customer may not always be right, but he/she is always the customer" hits home! Quick and good reading for everyone in the Service business. I gave a copy to all my Managers and Key personal to read.

Going Faster! Mastering the Art of Race Driving
Published in Paperback by Bentley Publishers (April, 2003)
Authors: Carl Lopez and Danny Sullivan
Average review score:

Helped me post a new pesonal best lap at Laguna Seca
I am an amateur racer competing in SCCA regional racing.

I found GOING FASTER to be a very useful textbook. The organization is excellent, allowing me to skip some basic information and go directly to the areas which concerned me the most. The clear an detailed description of exactly how a racing car is driven through corners helped me analize my own driving and improve my performance.

The description of each aspect of racing starts with a technical foundation and then builds to a description of how to do it in the car. I am an engineer by traning, so this combination of a theroetical treatment with practiacl advice is excellent for me.

I found the descrption of how things are in racing to be right on, and I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to try racing, as well as to the racer who wants to improve his or her perforamnce.

The Technical Approach to Competitive Driving
Going Faster approaches race driving from a very technical perspective. The book investigates racing lines, techniques, and some preparation subjects by paying attention to the underlying physics. The writing is crisp and clean without coming off as childish. Peppered with quotes from real drivers, this book is very approachable and readable.

The result is a wonderful book that you can read from cover to cover, or flip open to review something that's giving you trouble.

What's lacking? There's nearly no treatment of the driver himself. There's no way to learn what to think about before the race, how to mentally prepare yourself. Or how to achieve consistent results, or deal with mistakes. For that, you'll want a Ross Bentley book.

Skip Barbers Drive Faster
I race in AutoX and roadracing, and recently became an instructor in a racing license course. I bought and read several books about the subject of auto racing. The 'Drive Faster' book is absolutely excellent and definitely the most thorough read available on how to drive a racecar. It has the background, the theoretic part, the science part, the diagrams and is full of useful and detailed pictures. It's nicely laid out and written in a no-nonsense language. Every chapter is finished with a good conclusions part. As a bonus, there are separate pieces of useful and funny 'war story' experiences of several successful drivers, related to the subject of the chapter.

Drive Faster covers the subject of race driving from the ground up. I would say it's a big mistake not to buy this book if you race cars. I've gone back to read and re-read chapters in this book and everytime I start to think and find something to apply on the track. Best and funniest result was finding 0.5 sec in an AutoX by saying loud to myself "feeding, feeding" like Danny Sullivan suggests in one of his war stories... Best money/performance spent on the car so far. If this sounds like a commercial, so be it. The bottom line is that, unless you're Michael Schumacher, it makes an enourmous amount of sense to spend $100 on a couple on books to unlock driver performance rather than buying that nice anodized alloy performance item to gain laptime... Top marks!

Star Trek Sarek
Published in Audio Cassette by Chivers Audio Books (July, 2001)
Authors: A. C. Crispin and Nick Sullivan
Average review score:

excellent reading
Much above the level of most other Star Trek books. Strong, compelling characters (Valdyr, Peter Kirk and, of course, Spock and Sarek) and a great plot. Really nice love stories (both the one in the past and the present). I didn't expect much from this book but I really loved it. Read it!

The death of a legend
Spock's mother was a legend. She embraced Vulcan ideology and had a son with a Vulcan man. She was a woman of life and spirit. This novel is sad, Amanda's weaken state causes Spock anguish, that he cannot show in front of his father. When Sarek leaves, days before Amanda dies, Spock is angry and feels that his father betrayed his mother. In the end they reconcile, but it is hard, very hard on Spock's human half. I really enjoyed this book, I looked into what pre-Spock life was for Spock's parents. I saw how Amanda truly felt at certain moments. This book should be read by everybody who loves Star Trek and Spock. Keep the tissue close to you.

Star Trek: Sarek
Star Trek: Sarek written by A.C.Crispin is a book about the life of one of the most revered characters in the Star Trek genre... Sarek, spock father and an ambassador of the Federation.

For being a book about a Vulcan, you would think this book would be void of emothion... far from this case, indeed. This book runs the full gambit of human emotion, you'll cry, laugh, be heartbroken and happy. This book's time frame is after the events of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, as Spock's mother, Amanda Grayson, is dying and Spock returns to Vulcan where he meets his father Sarek and they get reacquainted, so to speak, making for some very interesting reading.

Of course, the U.S.S. Enterprise and her crew aren't too far away from this epic tale... no sir, as Captain Kirk's last surviving relative has become a pawn in the battle to divide the Federation. The Klingon Empire, you can always count on them, are the kidnappers with the Federation's distruction not too far behind.

There is action-adventure in this story, love and loyality. There is an enemy more insidious and more dangerous than any faced to this point. The characteriztions are spot-on with a well-fleshed out dialog making for a very quick, fast read. You will get engrossed with this tale and will not want to put the book down til the end.

You can always tell when you have an excellent Trek Book in your hands... the pages seem to fly by... this is the case with this book. This book fills in some of the spotiness between Spock and Sarek whick were until now only circumspect.

Touch the Top of the World: A Blind Man's Journey to Climb Farther than the Eye Can See
Published in Audio CD by The Audio Partners (10 April, 2002)
Authors: Erik Weihenmayer and Nick Sullivan
Average review score:

Just Terrific
This is just a terrific book, filled with humor, wisdom, pathos and adventure. The author poignantly describes his childhood descent into blindness, his efforts to ignore it, his initial rebelliousness, and his gradual coming to terms with his handicap. Before long, the reader, like Erik, no longer sees blindness as a handicap, but as one of many hurdles life tosses in our way. It is certainly less of a burden to him than was the sudden, tragic death of his mother, which he movingly addresses and comes to terms with. He finds purpose to his life, he finds love, and he finds friendship and adventure on the mountains that he climbs. Buy this book and give it to any friend who has an inclination toward self-pity, and it may change their life. Read it and be inspired by the resiliency and strength of the human spirit.

A Must-Read!
This is a must-read for crowds of all types. Touching, humorous, moving, the story of Erik will inspire many. Being blind myself, I can totally relate to situations Erik describes such as the "shaking" vision, wanting to be accepted among peer groups of any age, and the comical remarks that must be made to lighten up a situation. I especially enjoyed the adventures in dating and picking up women. Blind people too want to know what a person looks like and it was great to hear someone else echo the embarressment of mistaking a voice for a "sexy" woman only to find out it's a "girly" man. Those mistakes are made and have to be laughed off. It's just a feature of life, just like blindness is only a feature of a person, NOT THE WHOLE person. I strongly suggest this book to anyone looking for information or coping on blindness. Read it and you'll never be the same.

A Triumphant Life
This is an ease read but surprisingly soul-awakening book for me. There are statements on life lessons strung together like jewels hidden everywhere in this book, from the start to finish, mostly on self-assumed constraints that are common to everyone, sighted or not. I found vicariously the family love, friendship, and community support invigorating. I sensed the humor, strength, commitment, and perseverance Erik W carries with him daily, not just to the mountain top, which makes this book an absolute page-turner. Thanks Erik W for writing this book and share intimately with the readers the details of your journeys and the poeple in your life, we all have a lot to learn and draw from your experiences touched by the top of the world.

The Doll People
Published in Library Binding by Hyperion Press (August, 1900)
Authors: Laura Godwin, Brian Selznick, Ann Matthews Martin, and Maureen Sullivan
Average review score:

Doll People.. come to life!
What a terrific story! My daughter (10 yrs) and I read this book together during our nightly ritual for reading before bedtime (together), and each night we had difficulty putting the book down, wanting to just keep reading to see what would happen next! The author writes in such a way that it makes one feel as if they are right there, living the story along with the charecters. When everyone at Kate's house is fast asleep the Doll family comes alive, inspiring the imagination and for some of use remembering a time when we too wondered if our dolls ever came alive when we weren't looking!

A great story, with wonderfully animated charecters, a good mystery and fun suspense that'll keep tickling your funny bone, especially when the Captain (a real live cat) decides to investigate the dolls, or a real spider almost the same size as one of the doll charecters, crawling a wee bit too close for comfort, truly awakening the imagination with the authors knack for giving just the right amount of detail to keep your mind wanting for more...

I'd recommend this book for anyone who enjoys sharing great stories with their children, especially moms and daughters.. even for adults who have a passion for dolls. Excellent, will be one of my favorites for a long long time.

Amazing
I am a doll lover, and am always looking for books like this. I got lucky here; a favourite author, favourite illustrator, and a favourite subject. The story is a lot of fun too; Annabelle, an eight-year-old doll made nearly 100 years ago, has to deal with two events at once; worrying about the mysterious disappearance of her Aunt Sarah fifty-five years ago, and dealing with a family of plastic dolls that has been bought for the younger sister of the girl who owns the old dollhouse. It is funny, lively, and a lot of fun to read. I loved it and hope they write more books about the two doll families.

I can't wait to read more.
I've just started reading chapter books to my 3 and 5 year olds at bedtime. This is our second such book to tackle. The Doll People is just wonderful because of the number of illustrations sprinkled throughout. Impatient little ones only have to wait a page or two before another wonderful illustration takes them deeper into the lives of the dolls. The story is really fun and I find myself wanting to read ahead after the kids fall asleep. We are two thirds through the book (library's copy) and I'm online to buy our own today! It's a great book, that will likely become a classic.
